Chartered on April 3, 1947, by the Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA), Local 1097 is based in Virginia, Minnesota. It serves nearly 1,000 members and active retirees and their families across the Iron Range and Northern Minnesota.
The local is in charge of upholding rights under collective bargaining agreements, helping members obtain jobs through its hiring hall or referral service, offering apprenticeship and training programs, promoting job safety as provided by OSHA, etc.
The following tasks are carried out by members of Local 1097: heavy highway work, building construction, demolition, restoration, construction supervision, pipelining construction & maintenance, environmental remediation, and landscape/erosion control.
