Ironworkers Local 229 is a diverse union that was founded on June 26, 1918, in San Diego. Operating under the parent exemption of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Ironworkers, the local union represents more than 1,400 skilled tradesmen in San Diego and Imperial counties, and across the United States.
Local 229 members receive rigorous training through ongoing journeyman and apprenticeship programs, which encompass classes on all aspects of the ironworking trade. Additionally, members and their families may benefit from medical coverage, pension and retirement plans, various scholarships, and many more.
