IBEW Local 1547 was chartered in Alaska on October 1, 1946, assuming the jurisdiction of IBEW work in Alaska from Local 46 in Seattle. Local 1547 represents over 5,000 workers in many construction classifications including power linemen, communications workers, inside wiremen, power plant workers and technicians, mechanics, warehouse workers, line clearance tree trimmers, and heavy equipment operators.
Additionally, Local 1547 membership includes nursing assistants, clerks, accounting specialists, maintenance custodians, gardeners, librarians, programmers, radar operators, cashiers, and x-ray technicians.
IBEW Local 1547 members may take advantage of a number of programs, such as the training provided by the Alaska Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Trust, different types of health and pension plans(provided by Alaska Electrical Trust Funds), various scholarships, etc.
