IUOE Local 3 is a labor union that represents nearly 40,000 highly skilled heavy-equipment operators as well as public employees, including maintenance workers and police officers. Its jurisdiction covers Northern California, Northern Nevada, Hawaii, and Utah, and it is the largest construction trade union in the United States.
Local 3 was founded in 1939 as a branch of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
It operates training facilities in every state of its jurisdiction. Local union members receive high-class and thorough apprenticeship training as well as journeyman upgrade training and numerous certifications. Additionally, all members receive a variety of benefit packages, such as comprehensive medical, dental, vision, hearing, and pension coverage.
