IUOE Local 17 is a labor union representing over 1,800 heavy equipment operators, mechanics, surveyors in the construction industry, and Stationary Engineers working inside the building and performing all types of facility maintenance. Its membership also includes tradesmen who work in machine repair shops and quarries, as well as an increasing number of public sector entities such as towns or municipalities.
Local 17’s jurisdiction covers six and a half counties which include Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Orleans, Wyoming, and Western Genesee Counties in New York.
Through its training center in Lake View, New York, Local 17 provides its members with a comprehensive 4-year Heavy Equipment Operator Apprenticeship Training program. Additionally, all eligible members receive a set of benefits such as higher wages, Family Health Care, Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs), Pension, and Retirement Plans.
