Ironworkers Local 798 was chartered on October 20, 1961, with the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing ironworkers. It currently represents nearly 400 members who serve numerous counties in Alabama and Florida.
They have contributed to the construction of many important projects in its jurisdictional region, including Ipsco Steel Mill, Mobile Government Plaza, Farley Nuclear plant unit 1, ThyssenKrupp Steel Mill Buildings, General W.K Wilson Jr. Bridge, Mobile National Maritime Museum, and George Wallace Tunnel.
The Local 798 Training Center offers its members extensive training through the multi-year Apprenticeship program as well as journeymen upgrading and various certifications. Additionally, all employees receive a set of benefits, including Medical coverage, Annuity, Short-term disability benefits, and Retirement plans.
