IUOE Local 25 is a local union that represents around 1,350 skilled operating engineers who are mostly involved in the dredging industry. It has a vast jurisdiction covering the entire East Coast of the United States, from Maine to Florida. It was chartered on November 1, 1959, as a branch of the International Union of Operating Engineers.
Its members work as dredge engineers, drag barge operators, deckhands, welders, scowmen, handymen, rodmen, boat masters, boat captains, levermen, fill placers, shoremen, janitors, tug masters drill foremen, etc.
All members receive classroom and hands-on training through the Joint Union / Employer Training Fund which is sponsored by Local 25 and the Employers. In addition, eligible members receive a set of benefits that includes medical insurance, retirement, annuity, and vacation benefits.
