Plumbers and Steamfitters UA Local 486 was formed in 1995 by the merger of Plumbers Local 48 and Steamfitters Local 438. It represents nearly 2,000 union-trained plumbers and steamfitters who build and service parts of Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia.

Its members work on jobsites involving single-family homes, gardens, high-rise apartment buildings, large and small office buildings, power plants, chemical installations, factories, public buildings, and healthcare facilities.

Local 486 provides its members with a top-notch training program that combines intensive technical classroom instruction at the Local Union 486 Joint Journeyman and Apprentice Training Facility with on-the-job training. Members may also take advantage of Health and Welfare plans, Retirement programs, and other benefits.
