Stationary Engineers Local 39 (IUOE) was created through the consolidation of nine Local Unions in 1947. Today, it encompasses over 17,000 men and women who operate and maintain the physical plant systems in buildings, hotels, schools, hospitals, and like facilities.
The Local Union provides its members with high wages, health and welfare benefits, pensions, annuity plan, and workplace protection. Additionally, through its training centers in San Francisco and Sacramento, Local 39 offers its members an Apprenticeship Program that combines classroom technical instruction with on-the-job training.
