Chartered on January 1, 2011, IUOE Local 158 represents more than 4,000 members across 43 counties in New York State. It is a mixed local that represents both Operating Engineers working as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and stationary engineers working inside buildings performing all types of facility maintenance.
In partnership with its contractors, Local 158 has an extensive training and apprenticeship program with schools in three locations. The training curriculum includes hands-on training, classroom education, and paid on-the-job training. The Local Union provides its members with a set of benefits, including Medical, Vision, Dental, Prescription Drug, and Pension benefits.
