Since March 16, 1945, Local 1439 has been representing outside physical workers in the utility industry. This includes distribution and transmission linework outside of power plants, substation maintenance and construction, building service, meter department, meter reading, underground, utility shop, and salvage, gas, and motor transportation employees.
It also represents workers in municipalities of Ameren/UE (North & South contracts), Alliant Energy (Iowa), Liberty (Southern Missouri), the City of Potosi, and the City of DeSoto.
In partnership with different organizations, Local 1439 offers several benefit programs for its members. Among them are continued training, medical coverage, the Union Plus program, scholarships, and others.
