IUOE Local 49 was formed in 1927 as a result of the merging between Twin Cities Local 84 and 86. Currently, it has around 14,500 active members in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
The local union represents heavy equipment operators/mechanics and stationary engineers that work in Road, Highway, and Bridge Construction, Building Construction, Housing Developments, River Dredging and Port Work, Fiber Optic and Other Utility Installation and Repair, Mining – Iron Ore, Silica Sand, and Precious Metal, and so forth.
Local 49 Training Center offers its members a variety of educational benefits, such as comprehensive apprenticeship programs and thorough ongoing education classes. Additionally, all members may benefit from an extensive health and welfare plan, various scholarships, legal support, etc.
