IUOE Local 234 is a mixed local union representing more than 2,500 Stationary and Hoisting & Portable engineers who serve 92 counties in Iowa. Its members work on various job sites involving Schools, Utilities, Manufactures, Heavy & Highway, Sewer, Utility, Cross Country Pipelines, Energy Plants, Windfarms, and Heavy Industrial projects.
It was established in 1950 by the merger of three Locals within the State of Iowa.
Local 234 offers comprehensive and high-quality Apprenticeship and Upgrading Training programs to its members, ensuring that all participants have the expertise and knowledge they need to succeed in the business. Additionally, its members receive Medical, Vision, Dental, and Orthodontia coverage as well as Prescription Drugs, Short Term Disability, Death, and Pension Benefits.
