IBEW Local 953 represents about 1,600 members, including workers from Xcel Energy, Dairyland Power Cooperative, 14 distribution cooperatives, 12 municipalities, line construction, tree trimming, manufacturing, CATV, and telephone companies. Its jurisdiction stretches across Western Wisconsin, northern Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The Union received its charter on May 26, 1919, as an affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Locals’ 953 major purpose is to improve the quality of life for its members. The organization provides a range of services, including education programs by the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC), scholarships, health coverage (LINECO), and other benefits.
